What is LVL plywood?

LVL stands for "Laminate Veneer Lumber". It is an industrial wood product composed of multiple thin veneer layers bonded together with phenolic or melamine glue and pressed in the same direction. In Vietnam, it is also referred to as "unidirectional" plywood due to its manufacturing process.

LVL plywood at HG Plywood factory exhibits high durability, high bending strength, and flexibility. These qualities make LVL a popular choice for edge materials, panels, beams, and frame systems. Additionally, it is used in the production of wood for tables, chairs, cabinets, and other wooden furniture components.

Laminated Veneer Lumber

The production process

The LVL plywood production process has 4 main steps, which are:

Step 1: Wood from chosen and debarked forest trees serves as the raw material. After being moved to a sawing machine, the core will be cut into thin boards.
Step 2: To remove moisture from the wood, the completed veneer will be placed in a drying chamber, then categorized using standards like gloss, roughness, etc.
Step 3: After sorting, the veneer will be moved to the pressing section and given an adhesive treatment. In this instance, the veneers will be crushed under intense pressure and heated in multiple layers.
Step 4: Cut the boards to the appropriate sizes and package the product.

Applications

Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) is a type of industrial engineered wood product known for its technical properties. It's widely used in building homes or shipbuilding due to its durability and high load-bearing capacity. HG Plywood's LVL is commonly utilized for:

  • Beams and Joists: Its excellent load-bearing characteristics make it ideal for roof beams, floor joists, or structural frames.
  • Columns and Posts: LVL columns are a great choice due to their strength.
  • Door and Window Frames: Chosen for its dimensional stability and strength, LVL is perfect for creating door and window frames that won't warp.
  • Pallets: Many manufacturers opt for LVL pallets because they are durable and cost-effective compared to natural wood.
